Our Commitment
Sapporo Sushi is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We believe everyone deserves equal access to our menu, hours, location, and ordering information. We are continually improving the user experience for all guests and applying the relevant accessibility standards, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III and the California Unruh Civil Rights Act.
Standards We Follow
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We also reference Section 508 and ADA Title III as part of our practices.
What We've Done
- Descriptive alt text on meaningful images; decorative elements hidden from assistive technology.
- Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators on every interactive element.
- ARIA roles and labels, including labeled icon buttons and navigation landmarks.
- Japanese terms tagged with 日本語
langattributes for correct screen-reader pronunciation. - Color contrast checked against WCAG AA (4.5:1 text / 3:1 large text and UI).
- A "Skip to content" link as the first focusable element on every page.
- Reduced-motion support — animations and the cursor reveal effect are disabled when a visitor's system requests reduced motion.
- External links (delivery platforms, maps, social) labeled and announced as opening in a new tab.
Known Limitations
We are honest about areas still being improved:
- Third-party platforms. Online ordering (Toast, Uber Eats, DoorDash, Postmates) and the embedded Google Map are operated by third parties whose accessibility we do not control. A phone alternative is always offered.
- Phone reservations. Reservations are taken by phone, which can be a barrier for Deaf or hard-of-hearing guests. As an alternative, you may message us on Instagram or Facebook, or order online for pickup/delivery.
- Dynamic menu. Our live menu loads with JavaScript; we are working to ensure all core information remains available and clearly structured.
Ongoing Efforts
Accessibility is part of our ongoing work. We periodically review the site with automated tools, keyboard-only navigation, and screen readers, and we prioritize fixes by the impact on our guests.
Alternative Access
Our staff is glad to help by phone — we can read the menu aloud, take your order, arrange a reservation, and give directions. Call us at (562) 597-6778. Deaf or hard-of-hearing guests can also reach us via Instagram (opens in new tab) or Facebook (opens in new tab).
